Properties of organic/inorganic hybrid coating films synthesized with colloidal silica and organoalkoxysilanes |

Usage of the sol-gel process can relatively easily obtain organic/inorganic hybrid sol. In this study, colloidal silica/organoalkoxysilane sols were synthesized. Sols are involved with methyltrimethoxysilane and γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane using colloidal silica. Variation of viscosity and transmittance of sol solutions were evaluated with reaction time for sol stability. In order to understand their physical and chemical properties, sol-gel coating films were fabricated on glass substrate. Coating films were flat and transparent without cracking. Contact angle and surface roughness of coating films were measured for surface properties with reaction times. Thermal stability was observed by TGA thermograms. |
