제목 The structure and properties of the Al-Mg open-cell foam metals
초록     Metal foams are unfamiliar with the mechanical materials for their relatively new class of structural charactertics. At present, many people focus their attentions on the metal foams due to their potential applications in different fields, such as high energy absorption[1], sound/thermal insulation, heat exchangers, environment protection, mechanical prospects[2], and so on.
But how to fibracate high quality Al-Mg open-cell foam metals become a big difficuty. Because in the fibracation process, many characteristics and behaviors can affect the foam metal qualities. In this study, we explored the best process to make the open-cell foam, which has uniform pore size, distribution, and good heat transfer properties.
The foams were produced by the infiltrating process, and the preparation procedures of open-cell Al-Mg alloy foam were putting the preform granules into the mold, compressing them and preheating the preform to a proper temperature. Then the molten Mg alloys were cast onto the porous media, and the molten metal would infiltrate into the porous media under a proper pressure. After solidification, metal/particle composite can be obtained.
Then cut the metal into 50x50x30 mm sample. The weight of the sample was 70.08g, the density was 0.89g/cm3, the average thichness was 540.672um, and the porosity was 67%. From the compression test, we can find the higher the porosities are, the longer the plateau region is, but higher porosities also imply lower yield stength, and the foams of larger cell sizes have larger modulus and higher strength. Through testing, this method can be boardly applied in the future Mg alloy foam production.
