Highly Wettable PTFE Microporous Membranes |

Currently membrane technologies have been extensively used in many industrial separation sectors. Particularly microfiltration (MF) membranes are successfully established in membrane-based wastewater treatment such as membrane bioreactor. Usually hydrophobic microporous membranes (e.g., polypropylene (PP) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)) are used in this area but they suffer from fouling and membrane pretreatment for further practical use. Here we demonstrate a technology to control wettability in these hydrophobic membranes to prevent severe fouling and avoid unnecessary pretreatment steps such as glycerin and alcohol treatment before use in membrane bioreactor. |
