Super Water-Repellent Surfaces Resulting from Wormhole-like Mesoporous Silica Particles |

Wormhole-like mesoporous silica (HMS) molecular sieves with average framework pore sizes in the range 2.9 to 4.1 nm were synthesized by 4:1 molar mixtures of TEOS as an inorganic precursor and dodecylamine as a structure-directing surfactant. The resulted HMS silica particles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and N2 adsorption-desorption test. Then, the fabrication of superhydrophobic particles was achieved by coupling reaction of the HMS particle surface with nonafluorohexyltriethoxysilane. The surface modified HMS particles were characterized by TGA and FT-IR. The water static contact angles on the surface of epoxy layer (or polycarbonate layer) with rough microstructures were investigated on a contact angle system. |
