Insigts of Spinel Ferrite coated Hematite nanostrusctures in solar water splitting : Mechanistic study using Atomic Layer Deposition |

One of the major concern in photo electrochemical water splitting under solar irradiation is to develope a stable photo anode that can achieve hydrogen production at low potential or minimum bias. Spinel ferrite (MFe2O4) are wellknown over layers for hematite photo anodes which can strech the onset potential upto 450mV. The mechanism of spinel ferrite coated hematite for low potential solar water splitting is still under debate. Herein we try to recognise the role of spinel ferrite materials by incorporating Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) driven smooth nanoscale spinel ferrite materials over nano structured hematite films, since ALD is the unique technique to coat sub nanometer layers with accurate stoichiometry. Evolution of the intrinsic changes ensued to the composite photo anodes and electrochemical analyses disclose the mechanism and provide insight for materials architecture. |
