Aerogels are highly porous materials typically fabricated by subjecting a wet-gel precursor to critical-point drying or lyophilization in order to remove background liquid without collapsing the network. And many studies have already focused on aerogel-like materials because of their unique properties such as very high strength-to-weight and surface-area-to-volume ratios. To date most aerogels were fabricated from inorganic materials, so that the high cost was limited its industrialization. Knowing that silk is one of the most abundant natural materials, one can guess that combining sol-gel science and reinforced by carbon nanotubes, which owns predominant mechanical propertes and electrical conductivity, this new class of aerogels could be of high interest. In this paper we design a new low cost silk fibroin/multiwalled carbon nanotube nanocomposite organic aerogel and investigate the morphological character, mechanical properties and electrical conductivities by various measurements. |
