제목 Synthesis of Biocompatible and Radiopaque Iodinated Polymeric Microbeads for Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE)
초록 This trend is obvious because CT and X-ray imagings are commonly used in clinical practice. X-ray imaging is an ideal tool to monitor performance and exact location of implants in a noninvasive manner. Commercial PVA embolic particles such as Contour™ and Ivalon have been obtained by the pulverization of a fully saponified PVA. However, irregular particle size and shape have been found to cause an inflammatory reaction in the wall of the embolized vascular tissue, making selective occlusion of targeted blood vessels difficult. Our research describes the synthesis of iodinated radiopaque polymeric particles of sizes ranging between 100 to 600 µm, by radical polymerization of the iodine-containing monomers in the presence of 2,2'-azobis (2-methylpropionitrile) as an initiator. These polymeric microbeads are expected to play a role of embolic materials with inherent radiopaque nature.
