Recently, capacitive deionization (CDI) that engages porous carbon electrodes has been receiving significant amount of attenions as an energy-efficient desalination techniques due to its low operaing potential and high water recovery rate. Nonetheless, the desalination performance such as ion removal capacity and charge efficiency is still limited due to the reverse adsorption of co-ions. Herein, we propose an asymmetric CDI incorporating a Prussian blue analogue (PBA) and porous carbon electrodes that capture cations and anions, respectively. The exclusice intetcalation of only-cations with hydrated forms, facilating fast- and efficient-desalination with preventing reverse adsoprtion of co-ions causes high charge efficiency (75.8%) and ion removal capacity (23.2 mg g-1). In the viewpoints of those advantages, our asymmetric CDI based on the PBA should be an outstanding candidate for the next generation CDI. |
