Stereocomplexation for improvement of durability of the coated polymers for drug-eluting stent |

In this study, we established a four-step process to enhance the durability of the drug-in-polymer matrix onto cobalt-chrome substrate (CC). The first step includes the grafting process of the initiator for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The second step includes ATRP of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). The cytotoxicity of the bromine atoms was removed through reacting with sodium azide followed by reduction to convert Br to NH2 groups. The third step includes ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of L-lactide. The last step involved ultrasonic coating to the control and modified-CC with a sirolimus-in-polymer matrix. The outcomes of the degradation test showed that the formation of the stereocomplex between the grafted PLLA and the coated PDLLA stabilized the coating layer without any cracking or detachment compared with the unmodified-CC and the PHEMA modified-CC. |
