Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) have been an attractive polymer because of its viscoelastic, water solubility, hydrophilic and biocompatible materials. In this study, we prepared hydrogels by the crosslinking of PVA by gamma-ray irradiation and annealing to apply for articular cartilage and meniscus of the knee joint. The physical and chemical properties of the prepared hydrogels, we examined gel fraction, swelling, tensile strength, compressive strength, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). It was shown that the hydrogels prepared in these processes have the potential applications in articular cartilage and meniscus of the knee joint. |
