Silicon-based lithium-ion battery (LIB) is a next generation LIB because of its enormous theoretical specific capacity. However, volumetric expansion during charge/discharge step generates electrode pulverization. To solve this problem, polymeric binder is suggested as a proper mesh to endure the volumetric stresses. Herein, we report a novel method for designing LIB binder with conjugation of plant-inspired gallol functional group to polymer, which has highly adhesive property and high reactivity to conduct auto-oxidation, which can easily become self-crosslinked complex. These properties can assign various interactions with the components of the electrode such as silicon particles or carbon conducting additives to the polymeric binder. We attained 1.4 to 2.3 folds increasing of capacity retain in various conjugated polymer binders compared to non-conjugated polymer binders. |
