This study presents a synthesis method forspherical hollow mesoporous silica with superior biocompatibility and uniformpore size inspired by the structural property of diatom. Soft template method isused to synthesize the mesoporous silica particle. Aqueous template solutionencapsulated a mixture of silica precursor and organic solvent to form firstemulsion. Subsequently, a continuous hydrolysis of silica precursor inducedphase separation between the mixture. The synthesized particles have a hierarchicalstructure with tens of microns cavity and uniform pore size of around 5 nm,similar to the shape of diatom with hollow and uniform sized pore. The results show that the useful porous materials can bechemically synthesized using double emulsion system in one-step process. |
