CO2 capture and utilization (CCU) technologies have been recently in the spotlight due to the production of valuable compounds using CO2 emitted from flue gas. Among various CCU technologies, microalgal mass culture system is a promising method since it is cost effective, energy-efficient and eco-friendly. The study includes set up the 10-ton scale mass cultivation plant located at CO2 emission point (LNG-based thermal power plant) and production of high value bio-product, Astaxanthin. Astaxanthin originated from microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis has uniform chemical structure that has biological activity therefore its market price is higher than chemically synthesized one. Herein, we present the overall process development including conversion of CO2 from industrial flue gas to valuable products by microalgae. |
