Synthesis of A-D-A Small Molecule Donors with Ladder Type Backbone for Organic Photovoltaics |

For last two decades, bulk heterojunction organic solar cells (OSCs) have been investigated owing to their intrinsic properties as mechanical flexibility, low-cost, and roll-to-roll production. Small molecules have many advantages including high puriy with no batch-to-batch variation and easy tuning of optical and electrochemical properties compared with polymeric semiconductor. In this work, we designed and synthesized acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A) small molecule donors with indacenodithieno[3,2-b]thiophene (IDTT) as electron donating unit and the chromone derivatives as electron withdrawing unit. Also, 3-hexylthiophene was introduced as π-bridge to extend the conjugation length and improve the solubility. In order to investigate the photovoltaic properties, inverted type OSCs were fabricated with small molecule donors and PC71BM as accpetor. |
