Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) derived from renewable sources (mainly starch and sugar) has been considered as one of the most promising bioplastics because of its comparable mechanical and processing properties to existing petroleum-based thermoplastics. However, poor fire resistance of PLA, easy dripping in burning restricts its application in some fields like electronic appliances where high flame retardancy is required. In this study, a series of flame retarding PLA (FR-PLA) composites were prepared by melt-blending. The burning behavior of FR-PLA was investigated by vertical burning test (UL-94) and cone calorimeter. Additionally, the thermal degradation of FR-PLA composites was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). |
