Synthesis and characterizations of Poly(Vinyl acetate)-block-Poly(L-Lactide) PVAc-b-PLLA block Copolymer using HPEXP dual initiator |

The synthesis of well-defined poly(vinyl acetate)-b-Poly(L-lactide) (PVAc-b-PLLA) by combination of xanthate mediated reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and ring-opening polymerization (ROP) using super base 1, 8-diazabicyclo 5.4.0 undec-7-ene (DBU). We have synthesized bifunctional initiator 4-(Hydroxymethyl) phenyl 2-Ethyl Xanthate-propanoate (HPEXP)) with -OH and a xanthate group. bifunctional initiator was characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. In bifunctional initiator, xanthate group was used as a RAFT agent to polymerization of VAc and –OH group used as ROP initiator to initiate polymerization of poly(L-lactide), Thus, HPEXP initiator was first used to control radical polymerization of VAc, followed by ring opening polymerization of L-Lactide, The well-defined PVAc-b-PLLA block copolymers was obtained. The synthesized block copolymers of PVAc-b-PLLA were confirmed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and 1H NMR. |
