Thermal annealing of self assembled block copolymer composite for the fabrication of Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes decorated with ordered silver nanoparticles |

Silver nanoparticle decorated carbon nanotubes were synthesized by uniform dispersion of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in the self assembled block copolymer followed by chemical reduction of silver salt solution. Use of amphiphilic block copolymer micelles plays an important role in the uniform dispersion of nanotubes as well as coordination of silver salt solution selectively in the hydrophilic core regions. Selective reduction of the silver salt leads to the silver nanoparticle formation over the nanotube surface. After thermal annealing the nanoparticles came out of the block copolymer micelle and forms continuous arrays on the nanotube surface. The XRD analysis was performed to indicate that Ag was formed in the process. Transmission electron microscopy was performed to observe the nanostructure of the block copolymer composite. We also examine the effect of annealing temperature on the alignment of Ag nanoparticles on nanotube surface. |
