제목 Effect of fines dissolution on the particle size of ammonium sulfate by evaporation crystallization in semi-batch mode
초록 Crystallization is a separation and purification process, used in the production of a wide range of materials including fine chemicals. Ammonium sulfate crystals with a narrow crystal size distribution have a higher market value compared to one with a broader crystal size distribution. This study seeks to investigate the effect of fines destruction on the final crystal size of ammonium sulfate by evaporation crystallization with dissolution of fines in a semi-batch mode. The study also examined the effect of final concentration of the solution on the crystal size distribution.  The supersaturation within the crystallizer was controlled in order that the metastable zone was not exceeded. The agitation rate was also controlled to minimize secondary nucleation. An average crystal size of 1.8 to 3.6 cm was achieved.
