Macroporous polymer beads are highly cross-linked networks with high porosity, and have been widely used as ion exchange resins, chromatography column packing materials, catalyst supporters, adsorbents, etc. Thiourea has been known to be one of the best functional materials that can form a complex with metal ions. In this study, thiourea-immobilized cross-linked polymer beads were successfully synthesized to recover silver ions from aqueous solutions. The removal efficiency of the resulting polymer beads can be strongly affected by various variables such as pH, contact time, concentration, temperature, and, competing metal ions. The experimental results were characterized by various techniques such as FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, ICP, TEM, etc., and will be presented in details. |
