Gas separation using polymer membranes has been focused because of easy and cheap production and increased daily disposal capacity compared with other gas separation technologies. Thermally rearranged polybenzoxazole (TR-PBO) processes high free volume and suitable cavity size for small gas molecules, especially for carbon dioxide. Asymmetric TR-PBO membranes can be fabricated for module preparation such as hollow fiber membranes. To determine dope composition for the production of asymmetric membranes, various processes such as solubility parameter calculation, viscosity measurement, and ternary phase diagram have been introduced. Asymmetric membranes were successfully prepared with defect free skin layer plus sponge like structure. The asymmetric membranes were thermally rearranged into TR-PBO membranes and gas transport properties of there membrane were characterized using constant pressure various volume methods. |
