Reversible capture and release reactions of CO2 by guanidine/alcohol/non-aqueous solvent mixture |

Several mono and bi-functional guanidines have been synthesized by the reaction of amine and carbodiimide under clean condition. We investigated the application of CO2 capture using these compounds. The pair of guanidine and alcohol reversibly react with CO2 at ambient temperature. The viscosity of sorbents during the absorption process have been successfully controlled with organic solvent. Moreover, using the organic solvents, the absorption and desorption rate significantly enhanced. The hydrogen bonding interaction between guanidinum ion and alkyl carbonate salts were extensively investigated with computational study. These systems possess excellent CO2 capture and release for up to four cycles without losing their efficiency and selectivity. |
