Preparation and Evaluation of SBR Nanocomposites containing Nanoclay using Controlled Intercalation/ Exfoliation process |

In polymer/clay nanocomposites, the dispersion of the nanoclay is crucial in improving the physical properties of the composites. In this study, we put more emphasis on the controlled intercalation and exfoliation process of organomodified clay in the composites. Nanoclay was dispersed in a solvent using a surfactant. Styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) latex was used as the polymer matrix. SBR/clay nanocomposites were prepared by aggregating SBR latex and dispersed oganomodified clay. The dispersion of the clay was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM). We will present the controlled structures and the physical properties of SBR/clay nonocomposites. |
