Effect of washing solvent on absorbency of cross-linked poly(itaconic acid) prepared via inverse suspension polymerization |
초록 |
Inverse suspension polymerization process can prepare particles of water soluble polymers, such as poly(itaconic acid) (PIA), and have been used in preparing superabsorbent polymers (SAP). The process would be highly affected by many processing parameters like organic solvent, surfactant, and stirring speed. At the same time, concentration of initiator and cross-linker also affect the absorbency of prepared SAP and all the variables need to be finely tuned to maximize the efficiency of the SAP materials. After polymerization, the prepared particles could be isolated from the reaction mixture by washing them with suitable solvent. We have recently found that the pore structure of the prepared PIA particles was influenced by polarity of the washing solvent. Also the washing solvent dependency changed with incorporating additional comonomer. Details will be discussed. |
