Three kinds of refractory organic materials, which are present in significant quantities in terephthalic acid (TPA) wastewater, was used as sample organic materials for studying the degradation efficiency of Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP). UV-TiO2 aqueous system was used in this study. It was found that the removal of TPA and Isophthalic acid (IPA) were similar and much easier compared to benzoic acid (BA). Initial concentration of these organic chemicals had significant effect on the removal efficiencies. Optimum solution pH was found to 8. Increase in TiO2 concentration above 1 g/L had negative impact on the degradation efficiency. Interestingly, it was also important to carefully select the makeup chemical used, as NaOH was found to aid in the organic removal performance. |
