Preparation of Graphitic Carbon Materials Reinforced Natural Fiber/Poly(lactic acid)/Polypropylene Biocomposites |

Environment-friendly natural fibers (NF) and graphitic carbon materials (GCM) reinforced poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/polypropylene (PP) biocomposites were examined in terms of the reinforcing effect of fillers on thermoplastic polymers. The dynamic mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties of the PP matrix and biocomposites were analyzed by DMA and TMA. The dynamic mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties of NF/PLA/PP biocomposites show improvement with increasing GCM loading. The NF and GCM were well bonded with the PLA/PP matrix, indicating strong adhesion, as observed by SEM observations of the fractured surface. In addition, greater improvement in the storage modulus was achieved with the GCM/NF/PLA/PP biocomposites than with the NF/PLA/PP biocomposites. |
