Epoxy thermosets are normally used materials for various applications due to their properties, and these properties are derived from the highly crosslinked structures. In contrast, epoxy thermoplastics exhibit better performances such as impact strength and processability, originated from uncrosslinked structure and high molecular weight. Therefore, many researchers focused on the method to obtain high molecular weight epoxy thermoplastics in the past, but it was difficult to synthesis for some reasons, typically the formation of cyclic oligomers by backbiting. In this research, We adopted the rigid aromatic mesogenic unit in epoxy monomers to overcome the problems in the formation of cyclic oligomers. Finally, We could polymerize high molecular weight epoxy thermoplastics and it exhibit liquid crystalline properties as well. We characterized structures of epoxy based liquid crystalline polymer and also thermal properties. |
