Spherical-like (Y,Gd)BO3:Eu fine particles were synthesized by a pilot-scale spray pyrolysis process. In order to improve the morphological property of (Y,Gd)BO3:Eu red particles with keeping the photoluminescence intensity, the spray solution was modified to form poly embryos of Gd and B elements by introducing NH4OH solution and the obtained particles were treated by a ball-milling process. It was found that the morphology of (Y,Gd)BO3:Eu depends on the state of spray solution to be sprayed. Also, the changes in the VUV characteristics of prepared (Y,Gd)BO3:Eu fine particles were monitored with the state of spray solution used. For the enhancement of the photoluminescence intensity of (Y,Gd)BO3:Eu particles, Nd, Li, Ba, Dy, Sm, and In were used as a co-doping element and their concentration effects were monitored.
