One of the most widely used carboxylic acids is butyric acid, which exists in both fermentation broth and industrial waste water (pharmaceutical, paper, pulp, petrochemical and polymer). There are some commercial solvents for extraction of butyric acid from water, such as amine, alcohol, hydrocarbon etc. Heavy ethers such as DIPE, TAME, MTBE, ETBE, etc. could also be used as selective solvent for butyric acid. In this work, liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for ternary system {water + butyric acid + ethyl tert-butyl ether (ETBE)}, {water + butyric acid + methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE)}, and {water + butyric acid + tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME)} at atmospheric pressure and temperatures of 298.15K were experimentally determined. The consistency of experimental tie-line data was confirmed by the NRTL and UNIQUAC activity coefficient models. In addition, excess molar volumes (VE) and deviations in molar refractivity (∆R) data were also reported at 298.15 K |
