Transparent polyimide/Al2O3 hybrid films and Their Barrier Properties |

Aluminium oxide (Al2O3) nanoparticles were physically incorporated with organo-soluble poly(amic acid) to obtain polyimide (PI) nanocomposite films with improved moisture barrier property. The effects of Al2O3 contents on water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) and transparency of PI are systematically evaluated. Al2O3 nanoparticles are the most efficient factor to restrict the diffusion of water vapor within PI matrix. PI/Al2O3 nanocomposite film exhibits the most significant reduction of 95% in WVTR as compared to that of pure PI film. Thermal stability and mechanical properties of a pure PI film were also improved obviously by adding adequate content of Al2O3. The resultant PI/Al2O3 nanocomposite film exhibits good optical transparency by using spin coating. |
