제목 Thermal Behavior of Crystalline Polymers Confined within the Porous Alumina Membrane
초록 To understand the thermal behavior of crystalline polymers confined within the porous alumina membrane (AAO, an averaged pore diameter of 200 nm), we introduced polymers as melts into cylindrical pores in AAO. XRD measurement was used to measure melting points and SEM was used to observe AAO impregnated with polymers. We used ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers (EVA) having similar total molecule weight (100 K), but having different fraction of vinyl acetate (9, 18 and 25 %), to apprehend effect depending on the strength of the interactions between the copolymer and the pore walls. Melting point of EVA in AAO was depressed than in bulk. As vinyl acetate fraction of EVA were increased (9 ~ 25 %), degree of melting point depression was increased. To investigate effect of molecular weights of polymers in AAO, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) having various molecular weights (1, 2, 4.6, 9 K) were used. Melting point of PEO (2, 4.6, 9 K) was depressed than in bulk. As PEO molecular weights were increased, degree of melting point depression was decreased. These results imply that not only interaction between polymer and wall of AAO but also molecular weight of polymer considerably affected crystallization of polymer in AAO.
