The synthesis of substituted heterocyclic moieties including indoles, tetrahydropyrans and pyridines has received a considerable amount of interest due to the prevalence of these substructures in biologically interesting natural products. In addition, their various significant pharmacological activities, including antitumor, antibiotic, antiviral, and antifungal activities, have also attracted the attention of many synthetic organic chemists and biologists. Because of these interesting biological activities and the scarcity of materials from their natural sources through isolation, great emphasis has been placed on synthetic approaches toward the efficient construction of heterocyclic moieties. |
