The blend composition of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy resin (EP) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI) type polyurethane (PU) was varied and an aromatic amine curing agent, 3,3'-dichloro-4,4'-diaminodiphenyl methane (DCDDM) was used in this study with the expectation of acting as a co-curing agent for both thermosetting polymers. The thermal and mechanical properties of the prepared intercross-linked thermosetting copolymer network have been investigated as a function of the resin blend composition (in terms of PU content). DMA measurements as well as the SEM observation revealed that the cured system with two different thermosetting polymers has an intercross-linked copolymer network. The glass transition temperature (Tg) was decreased with increasing the content of PU in the range of this study (up to 50 wt%). Various mechanical properties are also reported a function of the blend composition. |
