제목 Antiviral Peptide Engineering: From Chemical Design Principles to Therapeutic Applications
초록 There is an outstanding need to develop antiviral therapies that stop membrane-enveloped viruses, which are the major cause of recent viral epidemics and pandemics. In this talk, I will introduce the Lipid Envelope Antiviral Disruption (LEAD) concept, which is a promising, broad-spectrum antiviral strategy to inhibit membrane-enveloped viruses, and discuss recent progress to develop membrane-curvature-sensing antiviral peptides based on the LEAD concept in tandem with advanced biosensing strategies. Particular focus will be placed on understanding the chemical design principles of these antiviral peptides and how features such as sequence length and amino acid stereochemistry can influence antiviral potency, selectivity, and bioavailability. An application example involving a brain-penetrating, engineered antiviral peptide to therapeutically treat lethal Zika virus infection in the brain will also be presented.
