In the current study, mercaptoacetic acid-coated cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdS Q-dots) were synthesized in aqueous medium and then, lactobionic acid (LA) was immobilized on the surface of CdS Q-dots (CdS-LA) as a targeting moiety to ensure specific recognition hepatocytes, to facilitate the uptake, and to enhance biocompatibility of CdS Q-dots. Maltotrionic acid-coated CdS Q-dots (CdS-MA) were also prepared as a control. The surface properties, fluorescence images and uptake amount of CdS, CdS-LA and CdS-MA were characterized. The result showed that CdS-LA were selectively and rapidly internalized into hepatocytes and gave fairly intense fluorescence images as well as demonstrated biocompatible behavior in vitro and higher amount of uptake into cells than those of CdS and CdS-MA. All these phenomena indicate that CdS-LA has a great potential to be used as a contrast agent for liver diagnosis. |
