Biomaterials have been attracted much attention as drug delivery carriers and tissue engineering scaffolds due to their biocompatible and biodegradable property in biomedical fields. However, the cells, tissues and/or organs are highly complex and different in functions and physicochemical characteristics to use biomaterials. Thus, it is highly desirable to design the functional materials for the treatment of various diseases. In this talk, I’ll introduce two examples of biomaterial designs for medical applications: 1) adhesive chitosan-based patches for multi-purpose applications and 2) hyaluronic acid-based self-recovering cartilage lubricant for osteoarthritis patients. |
