Polymeric chains are crosslinked with photochromic chromophores and they are known as photo-responsive polymer networks (PRPNs). Photoisomerization contributes to such opto-mechanical coupling. The photo deformation process has been envisaged as a novel opto-mechanical mechanism. Our understanding of the physical factors, however, relies mainly on experimental measures, as the theoretical approach requires a comprehensive knowledge of broad, interdisciplinary physical regimes that range from molecular geometry to manipulating macroscopic deformations. Our new approach integrates light input conditions, mesogen alignment, and macroscopic polymer deformations through multiscale framework combined DFT simulation, Molecular Dynamics simulation and continuum Finite Element simulation. |
