A gas-phase carbonylation of dimethyl ether (DME) to methyl acetate (MA), which can be further hydrogenated to ethanol selectively, on solid acid zeolites has been known to be easily deactivated by coke depositions. On the various chemical reactions utilizing zeolites, the coke depositions seem to be inevitable and various synthesis methods have been reported to solve the problems. Among them, nanosheet zeolite synthesis can be an alternative method to suppress the coke depositions through a larger cavity with less mass-transport limitations. For a gas-phase DME carbonylation on the Ferrierite (FER), nanosheet-structured FERs were successfully synthesized by using two organic structure directing agent (OSDA) such as cetrimonium bromide (CTAB) and piperidine, which also revealed a higher stability with less coke formations compared to the conventional FERs. |
