Organic-inorganic hybrid coatings having anti-corrosion and wear resistance were prepared from modified silica and functional acrylates. To improve the dispersion properties of silica during the process of manufacturing organic/inorganic coatings, the surface of silica was modified with γ-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysiliane. Silica and silane coupling agent in toluene were refluxed in the ratio of 1:2 at 100℃ for 24h and modified silica was characterized by TGA and FT-IR after purification. The coating solution could be prepared by mixing modified silica particles, acrylate monomers containing anti-corrosion functional groups, and initiator in a solvent and dip-coated on iron substrates, and finally photo-cured. The corrosion and wear resistance of each coating on iron were studied by salt spray test and pencil hardness, respectively, and the result will be discussed. |
