Polyelectrolyte is recently highlighted as indispensable materials for electrochemical device, for example, fuel cell, mechanical sensor, and electro-active actuator. However, the commercial Nafion membrane, the most widely used polyelectrolyte, has the limited transport properties with the constant equivalent weight (EW), leading to a low applicability for energy transducer. In this study, we synthesized ionic-functionalized nanofiller with the controllable EW. This has chemical structure of silica or silicate grafted with oligomeric acid by surface-modified condensation and subsequent polymerization of polystyrene sulfonic acid or acrylic acid. And then, EW-controlled Nafion dispersed with the synthesized filler was prepared by solution casting method. We demonstrate that the improving transport properties of the prepared polyelectrolyte enhance the feasibility of application to electrochemical devices. |
