Preparation of Bio-Nanocomposites from Multifunctionalized Plant Resin and MWNTs |

Because of high priced petroleum oil and environmental concerns, the commercial utilization of biopolymers from renewable natural resources has been actively studied. Multifunctional triglyceride, which is a main component of plant oil, is produced with active sites. Acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (AESO) and maleinized AESO were prepared. In order to overcome self-aggregation of carbon nanotubes, MWNTs-COOH and MWNTs-OH was prepared using concentrated HNO3 and tetrapropyl ammonium bromide (TPABr) as a phase transfer catalyst with KMnO4. Increased dispersibility of MWNTs was observed during copolymerization, because the miscibility between soybean oil and functionalized MWNTs was considerably enhanced. The dispersibility, thermo-mechanical properties and the electrical conductivity of the composites were investigated. |
