A dispersion-mediated interfacial polymerization(DMIP) technique is found to be a facile and effective method to fabricate CdS/PMMA core/shell nanoparticles(NPs). This method enables CdS/PMMA core/shell NPs to maintain the original optical properties and crystallinity, and prevent the aggregation by encapsulating each CdS NP. CdS NPs pretreated by initiator CAN/ethanol solution were dispersed in hexane, non-solvent of CAN, and then the MMA monomer was injected to CAN-coated CdS/hexane solution. Since CAN adsorbed on the CdS particle surface acted as an initiator for the polymerization of MMA, the polymerization of MMA occurred exclusively on the surfaces of the CdS NPs. In this study, high-quality CdS core NPs (Avg.5.4 nm) was prepared, and CdS/PMMA core/shell NPs (Avg. 19.4 nm) was well-controlled. |
