Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(9-ethynyl-9-hydroxyfluorene) |

We prepared a conjugated polymer with hydroxyfluorene functional groups via the transition metal-catalyzed polymerization of 9-ethynyl-9-hydroxyfluorene (EHF). The polymerization of EHF proceeded well in homogeneous manner to give high yields of polymer although the molecular weights are relatively low. The spectral data obtained from such instrumental methods as NMR, IR, and UV-visible spectroscopies confirmed that the poly(EHF) have a conjugated polymer backbone system with the designed hydroxy fluorene functional groups. This polymer was completely soluble in such organic solvents as benzene, chlorobenzene, chloroform, DMF, and DMSO, but insoluble in methanol and hexane. The cyclovoltammograms of poly(EHF) exhibited the electrochemically stable window at -2.3 ~ +1.7 V. It was found that poly(EHF) has two oxidation peaks at 1.3 and 1.6 V as well as two reduction peaks at -1.4 and -1.9 V in 0.1M TBAT/DMF electrochemical cell. |
