Preparation and electrochemical analysis of nickel hydroxide-decorated graphene composite electrodes |

Nickel hydroxide (Ni(OH)2)/graphene nanosheet (GNS) composites were prepared by a facile chemical precipitation. The structure, morphology and crystallinity of the composites were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transition electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Electrochemical properties were characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 6M KOH electrolyte. The Ni(OH)2/GNS composites exhibit the higher specific capacitance than the pure individual component. A maximum specific capacitance of 902.7 F/g could be obtained at 5 mV/s. The improved electrochemical performance is obtained by both the Ni(OH)2 nanoparticle that offer large accessible surface area and the hydrophilic functional groups on grapheme that facilitate electrolyte transport. These Ni(OH)2/GNS composites with high specific capacitance are promising electrode materials for supercapacitors. |
