Effective functional coating that renders the surface properties of the substrates on demand is very powerful asset for various applications. We have studied polymeric surface coatings for years to controlling of biomolecular adhesion or in the development of biochip with high performance. Some of the cases include inorganic particles with polymer such as gold, platinum, silver, etc. More recently, we have conducted the study of nanoporous membrane consisted of block or graft copolymer blends for water filtration membrane application. The selectivity of filtering and flux of the coated membrane was studied by filtration experiments with aqueous mixtures of various sized solutes including inorganic and organic compounds. In this paper, some of the recent results that have great potential as candidate materials for filtration and sensing in biochip application as well as key issues in bio-/environmental technology will be discussed. |
