제목 | A Study on the Improvement of Corrosion Resistance of Mg-Ca-Zn Alloy by the Formation of MgO Layer Fabricated by PEO Process |
초록 | Magnesium has been received the attention as an orthopedic implant because of its excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, magnesium has rather poor mechanical properties than other implant materials and decomposes in the body more quickly. Therefore, in this study, Mg-Ca-Zn alloy is used as the implant material to improve the mechanical properties and to contribute the bone growth during the decomposition since Ca and Zn are fundamental component of bone. Furthermore, to improve the corrosion resistance, we fabricated an oxide layer on the surface of the alloy by PEO (plasma electrolytic oxidation) process under constant voltage in phosphate-based electrolyte, and it had been tried under various conditions to find the optimum condition. The mechanical properties were analyzed by using UTM and vickers hardness tester. The MgO oxide layer was identified by XRD patterns, and the surface and component analysis of the oxide layer were analyzed using FE-SEM. In order to confirm the corrosion rate in vivo, the immersion test was performed for prepared specimens before and after the PEO process using a hydrogen collection kit on PBS (phosphate buffered saline) solution. |
