There has been significant evolution in coronary stents used in percutaneous coronary intervention. Nitric oxide posses anti-restenotic effects through maintaining healthy vasculature. In this study, layer-by-layer coating accomplished a sustained release of NO for about 5 days with two drug release bursts when compared to the other two coating techniques. In addition, biological studies revealed that samples had least fibrinogen adhesion when compared to control, also due to the sustained release of NO, endothelial cells were maintained for about five days. In Vivo tests show that NO stents have significant differences in the lumen area, in the neointimal area and the percent area stenosis when compared to the BMS group. |
