In this work, the effects of aluminum nitride (AlN) ceramics coating on thermal conductivity of the carbon fibers-reinforced composites (CFRP) were studied. AlN nanolayers were synthesized by a wet-thermal treatment (WTT) method in the presence of copper (Cu) catalysts. The WTT method is carried out in a horizontal tube furnace at 1700℃ under the N2/NH3 gas atmosphere using aluminum chloride (AlCl3) as a precursor. Copper catalysts pre-doped lead to enhance interfacial bonding between AlN layer and carbon fiber surfaces. It also helps introduce AlN bonds by self-oxidation resulting in forming Cu-O bonds. The SEM, TEM, and XRD were used to analyze the carbon fiber surfaces and structures at each step (copper-coating step and AlN layer formation step). In conclusion, we have demonstrated synthesis route for preparing AlN layer coating on the carbon fiber surfaces in the presence of metallic catalyst. Further, we found that thermal conductivity of AlN-CFRP more increased than As-CFRP. |
