As lithium ion batteries penetrated our daily life, there are growing demands for the development of high-energy-density energy storage systems. Lithium metal batteries are promising to this end, but they are facing a crucial safety issue caused by the formation of lithium dendrite, tied to battery explosion upon short-circuiting the cells. In this study, we investigate new solid-state electrolytes comprising single-ion conducting polymer nanoparticles. The synergistic effects of mechanical stability and high lithium transference number were found out to be effective means of improving battery performance. Ionic conductivity of the electrolytes was fine-tuned by controlling the size of single-ion polymer nanoparticles. |
