The surface morphology of an asymmetrically end-substituted, amphiphilic α,α’-disubstituted oligothiophene containing a hydrophobic alkyl moiety and a hydrophilic oligo(ethylene oxide) at both ends. The alkyl moiety and oligooxyethylene were added into thiophene unit by Suzuki coupling and these compounds were finally coupled to produce a triblock oligothiophene compound by Stille coupling reaction. Due to the dissimilarities of chemical nature and chain conformation of the alkyl, oligothiophene and oligooxyethylene units, it was self-assembled in various solvents. The thin films of the sample were deposited on various substrates and displayed a self-assembled surface morphology due to the microphase-separation between the segments. |
