Controlled Release of Drugs from Nanoparticles Made of pH-Sensitive Polymer |

To date pH-sensitive polymers have been widely used in the fields of drug delivery. Drug-encapsulated nano particles made of pH-sensitive polymers have shown their potential for use in drug delivery vehicles targeting to cancers or antigen presenting cells (APCs). The highly increased drug release at mild acidic condition (~pH 5-6) compared to extracellular pH 7.4 render them be useful for such purpose. In this work we synthesized a pH-sensitive polymer, poly(tetrahydrofuranyl methacrylate) ; poly(THPMA) and examined the feasibility of the polymer as drug delivery vehicle in the form of drug-encapsulated nanoparticles. The size and zeta potential of the drug-contained nanoparticles was measured using ELS. Drug release study was done using rhodamine B as a model drug at two different pH conditions: pH 5.1 acetate and pH 7.4 HEPES buffer. The details with respect to synthesis of poly(THPMA) and characterization and drug release profiles of the nanoparticles will be presented. |
